Questions parents ask

Does it really contain 100,000 questions?

No — 162 fully illustrated answers. "100,000 Whys" is the name of this kind of children's encyclopedia, not a count. We would rather explain 162 questions properly than list thousands of one-line facts.

What age is it for?

Ages 7–12. Younger children enjoy it read aloud, and confident readers from about 8 can follow the explanations on their own. Each page stands alone, so nobody has to start at the beginning.

Do I need to know science to read it with my child?

No. Every answer is written to be understood by an adult who has never studied science. Read it aloud together, or hand it over and let your child follow their next "why" on their own.

What kinds of questions does it answer?

The ones children actually ask at the dinner table — for example, why a coat keeps you warm when there is nothing hot about it, and why a spider does not get stuck in its own web. The questions are grouped into six worlds: the body, the home, animals, the sky and the planet, space, and how things are made.

Is it accurate?

Every page is based on science checked against space agencies, museums and current research. The explanations are written clearly for children without being simplified until they stop being true. Where science does not yet have a complete answer, the book says so — that is what the 16 unsolved mini mysteries are for.

Is there anything to do, or is it only reading?

There are 19 two-minute things to try using items already around the house, with no special kit to buy, and 15 quick quizzes so children can check what they understood.

Where can I buy it?

On Amazon, in paperback. It is 175 pages, 6 x 9 inches, and printed in full colour.
